SMASH is an alternative, magnet school (grades K-8) based in Santa Monica. The school provides an intimate educational setting to allow for close interaction among all staff and the 180 culturally diverse students. Proceeds from SMASH INTO THE FUTURE will help outfit the school, which occupies a brand new facility in February 1997, with an Internet-capable computer lab, new Pentium computers, curriculum development and student education on how to utilize the Internet as an information and creativity resource.

VIC was formed in 1995 to help foster relationships with individuals working in the new media industry. In promoting SMASH INTO THE FUTURE, VIC is showing how a network of individuals can have an impact on its community by empowering the young people with access to our digital future. Members of VIC also will provide technical expertise during the computer lab installation to help bring SMASH further into the future.

The World Cafe, located at 2820 Main Street, has a state-of-the-art Internet kiosk providing free World Wide Web access to those who visit the restaurant/bar without charge. The World Cafe also provides free Internet education classes every Wednesday night and is available for private parties which utilize the Internet kiosk.
