Following their tradition of innovative programming on the web, Warner Bros. Online has created the first cyber Yule log. As browsers enter the Warner Bros. Online world, colorful animated flames illuminate the virtual fireplace. Throughout the month of December, online users will be able to pick from a total of 20 Christmas songs to listen to, for a total running time of one hour. Timeless holiday classics such as Carol of the Bells, Angels From The Realms of Glory, Greensleeves, Silent Night, Joy To The World and O Holy Night can be played as the Yule log burns slowly in the fireplace. "As young as the Internet is, there are few traditions," said Jim Moloshok, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Online. "But at Warner Bros. Online we are starting an annual tradition of the burning of the Virtual Yule Log so that families around the world can share our Warner Bros. Online hearth as they celebrate this season of joy." The burning of the Yule log custom goes back to the Celts and Saxons cultures, as they would bring an entire tree to be burned slowly in the fire place for a period of 12 days starting on the eve of the Winter Solstice, around December 21st. The Yule log fire was ignited on top of the prior year's ashes and said to keep evil away. The ashes would be kept all year for prosperity and good luck. Warner Bros. Online is a division of Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P. Warner Bros. Online produces entertainment programming for the Internet and commercial online services with sites accessible through the World Wide Web and America Online.
