WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA WEB SITE
ON LIST OF TOP 100 ALL-TIME BEST

Los Angeles, CA (February 24, 1997). The Net magazine has chosen The Writers Guild of America's Web site (http://www.wga.org) for its exclusive list of "the very best the Web has to offer." One of only four sites in its category, the WGA location is described by the editors as brimming with "all sorts of useful resources for both the aspiring and the established writer."

A comprehensive resource for WGA members, as well as would-be professional writers, scholars, and fans of good writing, the site offers an array of information and news about film, television, and interactive media. Underscoring the fundamental importance of the written word, the online WGA features writing tips, celebrity writer interviews, back issues of the Guild's monthly magazine, Written By, daily news updates, and links to extensive online resources for writers.

"Aimed primarily at screen and television writers, WGA offers an Interactive section that looks at online, CD-ROM, and other new media opportunities," says The Net review. "The Craft of Writing page is packed with interviews and workshops with dozens of successful writers, as well as pertinent industry news. There is also a Tools of the Trade page, which provides all sorts of useful resources for both the aspiring and the established writer." The magazine concludes that the WGA site is "loaded with pertinent information, well designed, and easy on the eyes."

"The WGA Web site is part of a long-term commitment by the Writers Guild to increase international awareness of the American storyteller," says Brad Radnitz, president of the Writers Guild of America, west. "We are building an online community for our members."

"The site stresses content over technology and offers something unique to everyone who visits," adds WGA member Craig Schiller, chairman of the Web editorial committee. "We have the latest news and reference material for writers and those who hope to become professional writers." Schiller emphasizes that "this is the first movie and television Web site written by the actual people who write movies and television."

In addition to information on writing for the motion picture and broadcast media, the Web site also addresses the new media and interactive fields by providing interviews with established interactive writers as well as actual script pages. In addition, a searchable database of interactive writers is provided for the benefit of interactive developers and publishers seeking experienced Guild professionals. A downloadable version of the Guild's easy-to-use one-page agreement for interactive media is also available on the Web site.
