The eligible films are those that were released in 1996 under the jurisdiction of the Writers Guild of America, west and the Writers Guild of America, East and their affiliates in the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds. The members of the WGAw and WGAE were eligible to vote for these nominations from among (208) films in the categories of Written Directly for the Screen (113) and Based on Material Previously Produced or Published (95).
The nominated television scripts were originally presented between September 1, 1995 and August 31, 1996. All teleplays and radio scripts are read by panels of judges. The winning scripts will have been read by six or more judges each independent of the other. The same procedures are followed for viewing of videotapes for On-Air Promotion.
Winners of the Television and Radio awards, along with winners of the Screen Awards, will be announced Sunday, March 16th at the 49th Annual Writers Guild Awards ceremonies on both coasts. The Writers Guild of America, west ceremonies will be held in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and the Writers Guild of America, East ceremonies will be held in New York at Tavern on the Green.
